2015 NEW YORK CITY SUMMER INTENSIVE


For 20 years COMPLEXIONS CONTEMPORARY BALLET has been bringing it's unique brand of contemporary dance to the world. COMPLEXIONS Summer Intensive Program is developed with the intention of making the COMPLETE dancer.

A CCB Intensive instructs its students like no other. It guides dancers to achieve their full artistic potential in the unique and exclusive style of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Students are taught the Complexions technique through classroom exercises and company repertoire instruction. Participants experience techniques designed to cultivate and develop strong, well-trained, dancers who are educated to perform more skillfully and creatively.

DIVISION AUDITION REQUIRED


...is for Pre Professional Dancer - with a strong emphasis placed on the foundation and fundamentals of Dance in the context of Contemporary Ballet.  Students will be offered classes in classical ballet, contemporary, body conditioning, hip hop and yoga as well as working with current Complexions company members on repertory. Ages 13-17 years old.

Students must take at least two consecutive weeks

 

LIVE and DVD auditions have been completed

but

You can still submit an audition by VIDEO/DVD and be placed on a waitlist in case of cancellations.

 

Guidelines for DVD submission are below:

* Not to exceed 15 minutes

* A sample of bar and center work

* A short contemporary solo

* A completed registration form

Limited housing available at Marymount for Division I students only. Student must attend all three weeks to qualify for housing.

TUITION 
$575 / week (+$35 registration fee)
PLEASE NOTE: Students must take at least two consecutive weeks

$1600 (Book all 3 weeks by April 1st and SAVE 

                Registration and FULL payment must be reveived by April 1st to receive the discount. 

 

After you audition in person or by DVD you will receive an email with the status of your application.

if accepted and in order to hold your spot in Division I, you must return the completed registration form along with either full tuiton or at least one week tuiton.

Final payment for outstanding tuiton fees must be received by May 15th, 2015

DIVISION I CLASS SCHEDULE

Monday through Friday

10:00am: Technique class

12:00pm: Body Conditioning class

1:00pm - 1:30pm: Lunch (Brown bag lunch on every Friday with guest speakers/1 hour)

1:30pm - 3:30pm: Complexions repertory class

3:30pm: End of day
 

 

 

 

DIVISION 2   NO AUDITION REQUIRED. ADMITTANCE IS ON A FIRST COME-FIRST SERVE BASIS

 

 

...is for Pre Professional/Professional Dancer who has a solid technical foundation and wishes to continue to refine their training in contemporary ballet and achieve a competitive edge. A challenging training program featuring a curriculum of classical ballet, contemporary, body conditioning, hip hop, yoga and repertory with Complexions company members. Ages 18 and over.

Students must take at least two consecutive weeks

TUITION 
$575 / week (+$35 registration fee)

$1600 (Book all 3 weeks by April 1st and SAVE

To hold your spot in Division II, you must send your registration form, registration fee, along with one week tuiton.

...is for ADVANCED/PROFESSIONAL dancer's only. Recommendation letter from a working dance professional is required, please submit along with your registration form. Ages 18 and over.

COMPLEXIONS INTENSIVE DIRECTOR

Michael Leon Thomas

 

Michael Leon Thomas is the founder of MOTION THEATER LAB,

which is dedicated to developing dance theater programming for television and film. A native of South Carolina, Thomas made his professional debut with renowned dancer and artistic directorJudith Jamison.In 1991 Michael joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater,where he gained instant recognition for his passionate performances of Alvin Ailey’s Love Song’s, Billy Wilson’s Winter in Lisbon, Jawole Zollar’s Shelter and Dwight Rhoden’s Frames. Thomas was also featured in Judith Jamison’s Emmy Award-winning PBS special, A Hymn for Alvin Ailey, performing a solo to his own words as interpreted by award winning actress/playwright Anna Deavere Smith.Mr. Thomas has performed principal roles with a variety of dance companies, including the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in the critically acclaimed production of Men’s Stories, Zvi Gotheiner & Dancers, Dance Brazil, Donald Byrd/ The Group,and the Complexions Contemporary Ballet.Thomas began his artistic direction work in 1998 when he and two former Ailey dancers, Elizabeth Roxas and Karine Plantadit form RhythMEK, enjoying rave reviews for their company premieres at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival with Lightbody, as well as performances at Prospect Park’s Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, LMCC’s Evening Stars at the World Trade Center and the Telluride Dance Festival in Colorado. MOTION THEATER LAB has enjoyed premieres of his sci-fi ballet, Aquarius Rising as part of the City Parks SummerStage Series and Thoroughly Modern Michael at Aaron Davis Hall.Besides his company work, Michael is the program director for the Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s dance intensives, teaches for both The Ailey Arts & Education Revelations residencies and the Lubovitch Dance Your Dream Programs. His choreography has been commissioned by The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, The Cape Town Dance Company, The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, Long Island University (Brooklyn and CW Post), Encuentro Internacional de Danza in Madrid, Spain.Mr. Thomas resumed his work with Anna Deavere Smith as her movement coach for the US tour and the PBS filming of her one woman show Let Me Down Easy. He continues to teach at Ailey Extension, in the US and abroad and is currently working on his next production, Apotheosis.
